About

Our story began with a question - “Why?”

We were surrounded with passionate professionals, all brimming with ideas and projects. They were doing great work, but it wasn’t necessarily landing with the people they needed and wanted to reach. It was becoming a common refrain and we had to know more.

As we dug deeper, we learned these audiences weren’t always seeing themselves reflected in the story being told or a cohesive story just seemed to be missing. Facts alone don’t move the needle; story provides vision and an opportunity for connection.

Through Narrative is a small, woman-owned business born out of this desire to harness your narrative and use your story to create impactful communications work that inspires action and bridges understanding between people.

We believe stories have power. We believe in collaborative partnerships and inclusive engagement. We are on a mission to prioritize people in every step of our work.

And we believe stories are not stagnant. Ours, like yours, is still being written.

Who We Are

Who We Work With

Our clients are government agencies, nonprofits, and organizations passionate about doing amazing work within their respective niches.

They creatively find ways to stretch small staffs and limited resources. They recognize the need for strategic communications, but don’t have the time, capacity, or expertise to put it into action.

At Through Narrative, we are proud and excited to work with people who know the value of an effective communications campaign.

Working in close partnership with our clients, we do the heavy lifting to expand their in-house capacity, broaden their reach, and shout to the rooftops about their incredible work and opportunities.

Meet Our Founder

Ashley Dobson, PMP

Founder and Lead Storyteller

For as long as she can remember, Ashley has been captivated by a good story. As a child, you could either find her reading her latest library book or turning a nearby object into a microphone and hosting pretend interviews with everyone from her stuffed animals to strangers in line next to her. This insatiable curiosity about people and the world around her continues to be her primary motivation.

Ashley is a skilled project manager, bringing strong leadership, clear communication, and efficient organization to every project and program she takes on. She values commitment and connection, and is dedicated to using her talents and strengths to make a difference in her community.

From small town newspaper journalist to social media manager to community engagement specialist to vice president at a start-up government contracting agency, her experience over the past 15 years has been widely varied. While her roles, titles, and final products have changed, her focus on the power of storytelling has remained consistent throughout her career.
